Comparison of percentages of species with decreasing and stable/increasing populations for gap and non-gap species of amphibians and threatened birds. Amphibian gap species were identified through two methods (see Table 8.2): overlap between maps of species distributions and of protected areas (global gap analysis; Rodrigues et al. 2004) and through information from specialists (Global Amphibian Assessment). More gap species tend to be decreasing than would be expected by chance, while the tendency is for non-gap species to have higher percentages of stable or increasing species.
